Mustang Trek (the lost forbidden kingdom of Tibet)

The north of Kagbeni village is recognized as Upper Mustang (Lo-Manthang) which is the region of Tibetan influence. The ancient kingdom of Mustang- the capital of Lo-Manthang was attached to Tibet in the ancient time. It is also called the lost forbidden kingdom of Tibet.  The trek to Lo Manthang is through an almost treeless barren landscape. Upper Mustang has many monasteries form the 14th century, Buddhist shrines, Thankas, Mandalas, and Deities in and around the clief. It is believed that there are many caves where Tibetan masters have meditated. It is also called a small Tibet in Nepal where trekkers can see the Tibetan Buddhism and remaining of Bon Po. The trek to Upper Mustang goes to the elevation of 3730m but winter is freezing. The best time to do Trekking in Upper Mustang is July and August. The trek is completely organizing. Lo- Mnathang retained as its identity as an autonomous dynasty throughout the centuries that the present King is – Jigme Prabal Bista, can be a memorable time to have a coffee and chat. Upper Mustang trek is remain as a controlled trekking area. It requires a special trekking permit to do trekking here. Itinerary of Mustang Trek in Detail

Days 01:  Upon arrival in Kathmandu are preventative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your Hotel.

Days 02 : Free day in Kathmandu to make the final preparations for your trek or do some exploring on your own. We will be happy to arrange sight seeing tours of the valley for you if you desire. O/N Hotel.

Days 03 : Flight to Pokhara. O / N hotel.A free afternoon in Pokhara

Days 04 : Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Jomsom. Meet with your sirdar and the rest of the crew. Trek to Kagbeni.

Days 05 : Trek to Chele 3050m.

Days 06 : Trek to Ghiling 3570m.

Days 07 : Trek to  Tsarang 3560m. 

Days 08 : Trek to Lo Manthang 3700m

Days 09 : Explore Lo Manthang & Eastern Valley, Nyphu, Gharphu

Days 10 : Explore Lo Manthang.

Days 11 : Trek to Dhi  3240m.

Days 12 : Trek to Tange 3240m.

Days 13 : Trek to Tetang 3400m.

Days 14 : Trek to Muktinath 3600m.

Days 15 : Trek to Jomsom 2700m. Weather permitting your trekking crew might prepare a farewell treat for you. You would be expected to join in the singing and the dancing!

Days 16 : Flight back to Pokhara. Transfer to the Hotel. A free afternoon in Pokhara

Days 17 : Flight to Kathmandu. Transfer to the Hotel. Late afternoon sightseeing tour of Kathmandu

Days 18 : In Kathmandu. This is a cushion day that has been built into the itinerary to allow for delays due to flights or other reasons beyond our control. If you are able to complete your trek in time then this day may be used for sight seeing around Kathmandu Valley. or free for shopping days. O/N Hotel

Our full board package includes the following:

  • Airport transfers (by private car, van or bus as per group size)

  • All land transfers as per itinerary to trek. (by private car, van or bus as per group size)

  • Domestic flights and departure taxes as per itinerary.

  • All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) whilst on a camping trek that will prepared by AATE  and served from our dinning room.

  • Annapurna Conservation Park entrance fees.

  • Applicable trekking fees. (Special permit)

  • Porters and/or pack animal (one porter per two persons is provided to carry the clients personal effects)

  • Trekking equipment (duffle Bag for your gear and for camping based treks tent, mattress, sleeping bag, kitchen and dinning room tents and all kitchen utensils, toilet tent)

  • Trekking staff  (guide with government license holder and other assistant guides where applicable, cook, Sherpa and porter as per requirements).

  • Insurance for the trekking staff. (insurance as per state law)

  • All the government tax and our (AATE) service charges.

  • Upon final payment AATE will provide pre-departure file including the detailed agreed itinerary, hotels and transport booked and introduce you to your trekking guide.

Our full board package does not include the following:

  • Personal trekking equipment  Equipment Check

  • All meals while in Kathmandu or in Pokhara.

  • Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara, (they can be included upon request).

  • International flights and departure taxes

  • Visa and passport fees (to entry and re entry). Nepal entry visa is US$30 for 30 days.

  • Your travel insurance (for travel, cancellation, accident, health, emergency evacuation and loss of life, theft of or damage to personal effects).

  • Tips and gratuities (crew frequently receives some recognition for good service)

  • Costs arising from unforeseen events outside the control of AATE.

  • Personal expenses such as alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, mineral water, monuments entrance fees, postage, laundry, video, camera, phone, etc.

  • The single supplements payable on all bookings where only one person is travelling.

  • Gratuities for services provided on a personal basis.

  • All other services not included in the  "cost included" section above.
