This tour starts
in Lhasa, the sacred city and capital of
Tibet, where we will explore its great
palaces, monasteries and temples. We
drive to Ganden Monastery and start
4-day trek over the Tibetan mountains to
Samye, the first and holiest monastery
of Tibet. The trek through highland yak
pastures and over Shugu La pass
(5200m/17000ft) takes us to a sacred
mountain where many great Buddhist
saints and teachers meditated, including
Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of
Tibetan Buddhism. The breathtaking views
of the snow-capped peaks as well as the
views of Tibetan countryside will make
the journey an unforgettable one.
Witness Buddhist prayer ceremonies,
visit the homes of local Tibetans and
observe religious customs to help
understand the Tibetan religion and
life. Once in the Yarlung valley we
visit the impressive Yambu Lakang and
the tombs of the ancient Tibetan Kings.

Itinerary of Samye
Ganden trek in Detail |
Days 01:
Transfer from the hotel of
Kathmandu to airport for the
flight to Lhasa . The flight is
1hr10min. Drive 2hrs to Lhasa .
Acclimatization and relax day. |

Days 02 :
Sightseeing of Potala Palace –
The dominant landmark of Lhasa
117mtr above the city level.
Under 5th Dalai Lama constructed
started on 5th century. A
immense building 13 stories high
with 3mtr thick with 1,000
rooms, 10,000 shrines and
2,00,000 statue and was made for
meditation by the King Songtsen
Gampo, the structure is given by
the 5th Dalai Lama in 17th c.
The completion took 50 years. It
is the residence of Dalai Lama
and tomb of the former Heads of
state.
Afternoon visit of Jokhang
temple with barkhor bazaar – the
foremost monastery built in 7th
c. and housed 1,300 years old
Sakya Muni Buddha statue. Many
worshipers pay their respects
and prostrating themselves at
the main gate. The architect is
of this temple is in Nepalese
style. The temple is encircled
with Barkhor bazaar, a sacred
pilgrim path a lively and
colorful market. One can sit in
the Barkhor café and watch the
whole day.

Days 03 :
After
breakfast visit Drepung
Monastery situated 8 km in the
west of Lhasa city and has
10,000 monk. It is the size of a
small town. The monastery keeps
plentiful historical relics,
buddhists scriptures and arts
and cultures. Visit Sera
Monastery too like a small town
situated on the base of Tatipu
Hill. It is the main teaching
monastery once housing more than
5,500 monks & birthplace of
Tibetan medicine. Here one can
see the young novices learning
scriptures in the Debating
Garden being rewarded for a
correct answer with the
resounding handclap from their
Master.
Afternoon visit of Norbulingka
palace (summer palace) filled
with trees and flowers. This is
the summer palace of Dalai Lama
(8th to 14th). The small palace
of the 13th Dalai Lama is an odd
mix of traditional Tibetan
architecture and modern
paraphernalia. There is a small
only zoo of Tibet . |
Days 04 :
Drive
to Ganden and visit Ganden
monastery and get back to Lhasa
. |
Days 05 :
LFree day to explore Lhasa and
shopping. |
Days 06 :
Drive
to Tsetang 6 hrs.Visit
Yambulakhang Trandruk temple.
Overnight in hotel. |
Days 07 :
After
breakfast drive to the ferry
station and take a small boat
and cross 2hrs the Bramhaputra
river and after crossing take a
drive for another 25 min to
Samye Monastery. Full day
excursion of Samye monastery-
the 1st Monastery ever builded
in Tibet . This was the
residence of 6th Dalai Lama. It
belongs to Nyingmapa and Sakyapa
sects. Visit Yongbulakang,
Tanrandrik temple. This is said
to be the 1st palace in Tibetan
history and build in 2nd
century. The palace facing west
stands lofty on top of the hill.
The statue of the three periods
of Buddhas and the Tibetan kings
are enshrined in the palace.
Visit - The Tombs of kings,
which are massive knolls of
earth with flat tops like
platforms. There are 8/9 tombs
which can be seen especially the
king Songsen gampo the popular
king of Tibet is very much
visible. Get back and overnight
in hotel. |
Days 08 :
Drive
early morning after taking
breakfast to Gyantse 7hrs – This
is the 3rd most important city
of Tibet . In former time, this
was a gateway to the outer world
and wool trade place of Tibet .
The drive will take place via
Yamdrok Yumtso – Sacred Lake .
This is one of the most
beautiful and 3 biggest Lakes of
Lhasa. In the lake there are
some hilly spots which give
homes to the flocks of wild
duck. One can really feel relax
near to the lake. Overnight in
hotel. |
Days 09 :
In the
morning visit Gyantse monastery
and Kumbum. Drive to Shigatse
3hrs – The state that fulfills
one’s wishes. It is 2nd big city
of Tibet and especially it is
the center of business for
transporting the agriculture and
husbandry products of
southeastern Tibet . The drive
will go via Shalu Monastery
build on 1000. It is rare and
unique work of art mixed feature
of Tibet and Han. The religious
objects and scriptures are
written in the leaves (Patras).
Visit Tashilupo Monastery, which
is Gelukpa monastery in the
Tsedang region of Tibet and was
founded by Gedun Drup, the
founder of Geluppa sect. And was
later recognized as Dalai Lama.
It was builded in 14th century
and is continuously expanded by
the successive of Panchan Lama.
The Tantric College is one of
its four monastic colleges. The
most amazing image in this
monastery is the statue of the
giant Maitreya (Future Buddha)
erected by the 9th Panchan lama.
275kg of solid gold is used to
build this statue. The 4th
Panchan Lama’s funeral stupa was
build in 16th and stands 11
meters and is covered with solid
gold and silver. |
Days 10 :
Drive
8 hrs to Xegar. Overnight. |
Days 11 :
Xegar-Rongbuk: visit the Rongbuk
monastery

Days 12 :
Rongbuk: Walk to Everest Base
Camp Night in monastery

Days 13 :
Rongbuk-Nyalam
Crosses La lung-la pass and
Tong-la pass Night in Nyalam

Days 14 :
Nyalam-Zhangmu-Kathmandu Our
