Upper Mustang Trek
Upper Mustang Trek is trekking in the north from Kagbeni in Annapurna region, recognized as (Lo-Manthang), the region of Tibetan influence. The ancient kingdom of Mustang (Lo-Manthang) was attached to Tibet in the ancient time. Upper Mustang is also called the lost forbidden kingdom of Tibet.
Upper Mustang Trek is the trek through an almost treeless barren landscape. During Upper Mustang Trek, you will be able to explore many monasteries from the 14th century, Buddhist shrines, Thankas, Mandalas, and Deities in and around the cliff. It is believed that there are many caves in Upper Mustang where Tibetan masters have meditated. Trekkers will be able to observe the Tibetan Buddhism and Bon Po during Upper Mustang Trek.
Upper Mustang Trekking goes to the elevation of 3730m but in winter, this place is freezing cold. The best time to do Upper Mustang Trekking is July and August. Upper Mustang Trek is completely organizing. Lo- Manthang retained as its identity as an autonomous dynasty throughout the centuries that the present King is – Jigme Prabal Bista, can be a memorable time to have a coffee and chat.
Upper Mustang trek is remains as a controlled trekking area in Nepal. It requires a special trekking permit to do Upper Mustang trekking.

Itinerary - Upper Mustang Trek
Day 1. Arrive in Kathmandu :
Our representative will be waiting in the Nepal airport and transfer to Hotel. We will welcome to our city office and finalize the formalities. Take an easy evening to stroll around. Over night in the Hotel.
Day 2. Kathmandu Sight seeing :
After the breakfast drive to sight seeing by car with guide to the world heritage sites (Pashupatinath- Hindu temple, Boudhanath - Buddhist stupa, Swyambhunath - Buddhist Stupa and Patan Durbar Square). Back to Hotel and free in the evening. We will prepare the trekking permit and other preparation to the trekking. Briefing in the evening in our office. Over night in the Hotel. BB
Day 3. Drive to Pokhara :
Wake up early in the morning 6AM and take a early breakfast. Our trekking guide will led you to a regular tourist bus to Pokhara at 7:00AM which will take approximately 6hr. free evening around the lake side. Over night in the Hotel. BB
Day 4. Fly to Jomsom & trek to Kagbeni [2,858m/9,375ft]: 3-4 hrs
After an early breakfast transfer to the airport for a morning flight to Jomsom, a super scenic flight of 20 minutes over the mountains with views of 8,000ers such as Annapurna & Dhaulagiri, brings you at Jomsom. It will take 4 hrs to arrive in Kagbeni, which lies at the bank of two rivers. Kagbeni is an interesting windswept villages situated on the main age old Trans-himalayan salt trade route to Tibet via Upper Mustang area. (B, L, D
Day 5. Trek to chele [3050m/10,004ft]: 5-6 hrs
Our journey starts with a special permit check up and onwards to the riverbank of Kaligandaki up stream. During the walk we have scenic picturesque place to stop through the sandy and windy trails. This trails follows the up and downhill. We will come on cross white washed houses, fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat and apple orchards. Trek continue after crossing the river head up to the huge red chunk of conglomerate that has fallen from the cliff above, forming a tunnel through which the Kaligandaki follows. We head on to small ridges reach at Chele village. (B, L, D)
Day 6. Trek to Syanbochen [3475m/11,398ft]: 6-7 hrs
Today, we start our trek again and walk further to Eklo Bhatti. We climb to Taklam La Pass (3,624m/11,923 ft) through plateaus and narrow stretches. Further descend a little to the village of Samar. Climb the trail that goes above Samar village to the ridge then descending steeply to a stream. Another 3 hrs similar walk takes us to Syanbochen. We also pass by a cave famously known as Ramchung Cave. (B, L, D)
Day 7. Trek to Ghami [3520m/11,546ft]: 5-6 hrs
Today we will have a little hard day as we have two passes before our destination. After breakfast we trek uphill to the Yamda La (3,850m) passing a few teahouses, chortens and local villages. The climb to Nyi Pass (4,010m) would be a little longer. Descend to our overnight stop at Ghami. The third largest village in the Lo region, Ghayami is surrounded by large fields most of which are barren. (B, L, D)
Day 8. Trek to Charang [3500m/11,480ft]: 4-5 hrs
Trek starts after breakfast with a pleasant walk. After crossing Ghaymi Khola, the trail climbs to a plateau and passes beside a very long Mani wall, a sacred stone wall made by the followers Buddhism. From the end of the wall the trail heads east to the village of Charang with a maze of fields, willow trees and houses separated by stone walls at the top of the Tsarang Chu canyon.. (B, L, D)
Day 9. Trek to Upper Mustang (Lo-Mangthang) (3700m/12,136ft): 5-6 hrs
We trek to our final destination, Lo-Mangthang with a magnificent view of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I and Bhrikuti peak. The trail first descends to Charang Chu Canyon and then climbs steeply after crossing the river. While descending to Lo-Mangthang, views of the walled city appear magnificent with its hills on the north Tibetan Border. (B, L, D)
Day 10. Explore Upper Mustang (Lo-Mangthang)
Today, we Visit the major Gumpas around the Lo-manthang including Namgyal Gompa, Tingkhar, Champa Lakhang "God house", Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Entrance Hall and around. Another attraction is the four- storey building of the Raja's palace as well as the surrounding panoramic views of the Himalaya. (B, L, D)
Day 11. Upper Mustang (Lo-Mangthang) to Drakmar [3810 m/12,500ft]: 6-7 hrs
Today we will take an another route than we had trekked to Lo-Mangthan. Trek to Drakmar via Gyakar with more than 1200 years old Ghar Gompa with Guru Rinpoche. The Gompa is also famous for its rock paintings. Explore the local area. (B, L, D)
Day 12. Trek to Ghiling [3806m/12,484ft]: 5-6 hrs
Trek down to Ghiling. It will take approximately 6 hrs. Starting early in the morning is always better while trekking this areas as afternoon seems dusty and windy. (B, L, D)
Day 13. Trek to Chusang [3050m/10,004ft]: 5-6 hrs
Trek back to Chusang for the overnight stop after 5 hrs walk. You will have wonderful scenery during the journey with a Himalayan view. Enjoy your trip and overnight at teahouse. (B, L, D)
Day 14. Trek to Jomsom [2700/8,856ft]: 6-7 hrs
This is a last and long day but instead you can stop in Kagbeni as well as if you are tired. From Kagbeni you will join a regular Annapurna trekking trail. (B, L, D)
Day 15. Fly back to Pokhara:
If you are staying in Kagbeni you have start early in the morning and if you are staying in Jomsom you can have a breakfast and take a fly back to Pokhara and take a free day around the city.
Day 16. Drive to Kathmandu.
Take a tourist bus to Kathmandu and transfer to the Hotel. Late afternoon sightseeing tour of kathmandu
Day 17. Free day in Kathmandu.
This is a cushion day that has been built into the itinerary to allow for delays due to flights or other reasons beyond our control. If you are able to complete your trek in time then this day may be used for sight seeing around Kathmandu Valley. Or free for shopping days. O/N Hotel
Day 18. Depart Katmandu or join other program :
Home sweet home.
Package Cost Includes - Upper Mustang Trek
• Airport transfers (by private car, van or bus as per group size)
• All land transfers as per itinerary to trek. (by private transfer as per group size)
• Domestic flights and departure taxes as per itinerary.
• All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) whilst on a camping trek that will prepared by AATE and served from our dinning room.
• Applicable trekking fees. (Special permit)
• Porters and/or pack animal (one porter per two persons is provided to carry the clients personal effects)
• Trekking equipment (duffle Bag for your gear and for camping based treks tent, mattress, sleeping bag, kitchen and dinning room tents and all kitchen utensils, toilet tent)
• Trekking staff (guide with government license holder and other assistant guides where applicable, cook, Sherpa and porter as per requirements).
• Insurance for the trekking staff. (insurance as per state law)

• All the government tax and our (AATE) service charges.
• Upon final payment AATE will provide pre-departure file including the detailed agreed itinerary, hotels and transport booked and introduce you to your trekking guide.

• Costs arising from unforeseen events outside the control of AATE.
• Personal expenses such as alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, mineral water, monuments entrance fees, postage, laundry, video, camera, phone, etc.
• The single supplements payable on all bookings where only one person is traveling.
